Google slower than MSN / Yahoo

It's just been 5 days since I announced the preview edition of Question Writer - but already it's the number one site for a search on the product title on MSN and also on Yahoo but only registers as search result 8 on Google. It's not a hotly contested term and while there might be some debate as to what is the most relevant result for the search term, I think most would agree that product of that name is the most relevant. I'd expect it to rank more highly in Google over the coming weeks but Google definitely seems to be slower to either crawl or index the new site.

I read a while back that google takes into account the lenght of time the site has been available in its ranking. Keeps people from just popping up with nonesense site.

So with that in mind I expect that you are correct that in the future your ranking will go up. But since the google cache of the site is upto date, I dont think its because they are slower to crawl, they just think that because your site is new it doesnt deserve as good a relavancy score as the others. More information on how they rank pages can be found in this article abou their patent filing http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/6-10-2005-71368.asp

Yeah, there is maybe more of a delay for Google to 'esteem' a link or new site rather than the speed of the crawling itself - weblogs show Google in there pretty fast.

There are also more factors and potential pitfalls to take into account with Google as compared to the other engines. There's so much to it, and it changes so frequently I'm of the opinion now that's it's almost better not to know any of it.

As far as SEO goes -
